Terms of Use
Last updated November 1, 2026
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and a5n Holdings ("we", "us") covering the Windowz application for macOS, including its bundled MCP server and any updates we provide (together, "Windowz" or the "Software"). By downloading, installing or using Windowz you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't install or use it.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Windowz on Mac computers you own or control, for personal or business use, under these Terms. Windowz is currently provided free of charge. We may change that for future versions; the version you have installed keeps the terms it came with.
2. What you may not do
- Sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Windowz, or offer it as part of a service, without our written permission.
- Remove or alter our code signature, notarization or any notice in the Software.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software except where the law expressly allows it despite this restriction.
- Use Windowz to break the law or to interfere with other people's systems.
3. Permissions the app asks for
Windowz moves and resizes windows through the macOS Accessibility API. It can only do this after you turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility. The permission is used for exactly that purpose: reading the positions of windows on your screen and setting new ones when you ask, through a shortcut, a layout, or an agent connected to its MCP server. You can revoke the permission at any time in System Settings.
4. Your data stays on your Mac
Windowz has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking, and we don't collect personal information through it. Layouts, shortcuts and settings are stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/Windowz. The one network request Windowz makes is a check for updates against our release server (releases.a5n.co), on launch and then daily unless you turn automatic checks off in General. That request carries only what any web request carries, such as your IP address and a user-agent string, and we don't keep a record of it tied to you. Because Windowz doesn't collect personal data, we don't publish a separate privacy policy for it.
5. Updates
Windowz can download and install new versions of itself. Before installing, it verifies the download's size and checksum, its code signature and team identity, and Apple's notarization. Updates may add, change or remove features. These Terms apply to updates unless an update comes with its own terms.
6. Agents and the MCP server
Windowz includes a Model Context Protocol server so AI agents and other tools you run can arrange windows through it. Anything an agent does through Windowz happens on your Mac, under your user account, at your direction. You are responsible for which tools you connect and for what you ask them to do.
7. Ownership
Windowz, including its design, logo and name, belongs to us and is protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms don't transfer any ownership to you. Windowz uses third-party open-source components under their own licenses, which are included with the Software.
8. No warranty
Windowz is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every app or display setup. Moving windows depends on how other apps behave, and some apps don't allow their windows to be moved or resized.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits or business interruption, arising out of or related to Windowz or these Terms, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to Windowz is limited to the amount you paid us for it, which for the free version is nothing. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, so some may not apply to you.
10. Ending this agreement
You can stop using Windowz at any time by deleting it. We may end this license if you break these Terms. When the license ends, you must stop using Windowz and delete your copies. Sections 7 through 12 survive.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version is always at this address, with the date it last changed. Continuing to use Windowz after a change means you accept the new Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which a5n Holdings is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be resolved in the courts there. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
